Carteret, St Brelade, Jersey
Nash Baker Architects were asked to design a ground floor extension to an existing 1950s house in the parish of St Brelade in Jersey. The design almost doubles the size of the existing floorspace, opening up the previously cramped kitchen to create a top-lit garden room and adjoining snug. Large floor to ceiling glass folding sliding doors allow the entire extension to be open, blurring the boundary between inside and out.
A simple palette of materials of steel, white render and concrete was deliberately chosen to help compliment the existing building, and to create a sympathetic but contemporary addition.
