Kensington Corner House

Completed in 2023, this handsome stucco fronted home in the heart of Kensington combines elegant sophistication with practical family living. The client's vision for the house was to create a home for all occasions; with a mix of ‘grown-up’ spaces for work and entertaining, relaxed informal spaces for family and friends, and more intimate and personalised bedrooms.

We completely redesigned and refurbished the house, not only increasing the property size, but also improving the natural light, volume, and flow. Internally we reintroduced traditional architectural proportions and detailing to the principal floors, helping to create a sympathetic canvas for more contemporary finishes and furnishing. Away from the principal floors, and in keeping with the more modern functions, the spaces become more expansive, and the architectural language becomes cleaner and more contemporary.

We particularly enjoyed designing the attic mezzanine which provides a shared space for play, study and sleepovers! Both children’s bedrooms can access the mezzanine from their own staircase, and the extra volume floods the bedrooms with light. As the children grow older the mezzanine can simply be divided, to provide two separate studies.

The ground floor has an interconnected study and reception room, with tall ceilings and elegant panelling and architectural detailing helping to frame the owner’s artwork.

The master bedroom and bathroom are a serene retreat from the busy world, with classical detailing, contemporary twists, and a palette of tactile natural materials.

Further intimate entertaining spaces can be found in the garden courtyard and basement.
